Elonda Sherman doesn’t just sell houses. She and her husband, John, craft high-end, specially designed spaces in Greenville. “To see something from the old life and be able to add an asset to it and to beautify the streets that we walked and grew up on,” Sherman said. It’s one way she uses her talents to build and encourage generational wealth. “Through investing, through homeownership, and turning the trajectory, if you would, of time,” Sherman said. “To see our families be in a position where, before, our ancestors never had the opportunity to even think that they would have the opportunity to do.”Greenville has seen several neighborhoods gentrified. Being a Black entrepreneur building in communities of color, Sherman hopes to have a positive impact in her hometown.”We always want to set everybody up for a win-win, because when we’re all winning, my goodness — what a better world, right? When we’re against another company, or when we’re against another race or anything like this — there’s no good to that,” Sherman said. “And so, for us, when we come into a community like this, we come in with the idea of ‘What can we do to make it better?'”
