Jack Crowley C’18, G’20 Flourishes in Drew University’s Undergrad, Grad Business and Finance Programs

Crowley found his way in the classroom and in his career path after transferring to Drew

February 2022 – Jack Crowley C’18, G’20 is a poster student for the rapid expansion of Drew University’s economics and business program.

Crowley, who recently earned a promotion to capital markets associate at Pagaya, a fintech company in New York City, transferred to Drew from Fairfield University as a sophomore and flourished both academically and experientially.

“Drew gave me a breath of fresh air. My overall performance in the classroom became much better, I played on the men’s lacrosse team, and I culminated my time at Drew with a great experience in the MFin program,” said Crowley, an economics major and business minor.

“While training at a small bond brokerage firm after graduating in 2018, I heard about the new Master of Science in Finance (MFin) program at the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies and realized I wanted to explore more technical areas of finance and discover things that I love. Spoiler alert: it did!” said Crowley.

The MFin was originally added to Caspersen’s offerings in 2018, shortly before Crowley graduated from the College of Liberal Arts. Having seen its popularity grow, Drew made it available as one of the University’s Dual-Degrees as a 4+1 program, which allows undergraduate students to begin taking graduate-level courses as juniors and seniors, providing a head start toward earning their advanced degrees in just one additional year to save students both time and money.

“The professors in the MFin program seriously cared about the work and the students, and that made it easier to become more interested in different areas of focus,” said Crowley, who secured an internship with Merrill Lynch and DriveWealth while pursuing his masters.

“A lot of what I do in my job directly relates to work that I did in the program. It definitely prepared me well.”

About that current job.

When Crowley’s temporary position as a supply chain analyst at Torrent Pharma ended in February 2021, he was contacted by Ben Blatt C’10, chief business officer at Pagaya, through Drew’s alum network via Steve Firestone, assistant teaching professor of finance and director of the MFin program.

“Pagaya offered me a full-time position as an analyst and a year later I’m now a capital markets associate. I’m part of the operations team where we handle the financial and data functions of transactions, securitizations, etc., of structured products and the capital markets,” he explained.

With eagerness and outcomes like Crowley’s, it’s no wonder Drew has added the Masters of Science in Finance program, the MFin Dual-Degree, an MFin academic partnership, and undergraduate majors in finance, marketing, and accounting over the last several years.
